The wild truth about Michelin stars
Wild truth: Michelin stars exist because of… tires!
Here’s the story:
Nearly 100 years ago, Michelin (yes, the tire company) wanted rich people from London and Paris to start driving more.
So, what did they do?
They started reviewing restaurants and hotels in the countryside, encouraging people to drive there.
More driving meant more tire usage, more stops at gas stations – and more tire sales.
So they created a book – the Michelin Guide.
Rich people from London and Paris started driving hours for the best foie gras.
The Michelin stars we now associate with gourmet dining? All part of a clever marketing strategy designed to sell more tires.
The lesson?
Smart, strategic content has the power to shape an entire industry.
