We all have a brand. Are you in charge of yours?
Most people think their business brand is enough. But here’s the truth:
Your personal brand is working for you – or against you – whether you like it or not.
Last week, I had lunch with a client, a successful entrepreneur in his 40s.
He suddenly asked me:
“Do I really need a personal brand if my business is doing well?”
My response was simple:
“You already have a brand. The question is: Are you in charge of it?”
Here’s how you can take control of yours and use it to grow your business:
Step 1: Find your niche
Everyone has a story, an expertise, or a unique perspective.
What’s a broad topics you know well?
What’s a niche you know even better?
Who do you help in that niche?
The key? Zero in on what you know better than anyone else, and who benefits from it.
Example: A client of mine built a personal brand around “freelance employment solutions for small business owners.” That clarity helped him reach 120 000+ post views and 20+ meetings booked, in just 10 weeks.
Step 2: Set a clear outcome
A personal brand without a purpose is just noise. Ask yourself:
Are you looking to attract investors?
Win trust from your team and peers?
Drive more sales or partnerships?
Your personal brand is a tool. Use it to achieve specific goals, not just to get likes.
Step 3: Choose your role
There are three ways to show up for your audience:
Leading your audience:
Discovering for your audience.
Reporting for your audience.
But, you can’t be a leader without the experience, a discoverer without the studying, or a reporter without the interview.
Step 4: Pick your topics
What value can you consistently share? What insights, tools, or strategies does your ideal audience need to solve their biggest challenges?
Pick your topics and start writing!
Are you ready to take control of your brand?
